Hi Sarah! Thanks for taking the time to speak with us – we’re looking forward to learning more about you. So, to start: what’s your background, and what attracted you to Cherry Godfrey?
I was born in New Zealand and came to Jersey when I was seven years old. I’m a movie buff and addicted to Mexican food. I like luxurious holidays (who doesn’t?!), so I travel as much as I can: often to Canada, as I have friends there, as well as London.
I was attracted to Cherry Godfrey because it’s a local family-owned business; they know the Islands and Islanders well; and they provide a bespoke service with the customer’s needs in mind.
What was your first job, and what did you learn from it?
My first job was at Rossborough Insurance Brokers as a motor claims specialist. I learnt a lot about cars!
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced at work – and how did you overcome it?
Probably being promoted for the first time; with that promotion came a realisation that I was now responsible for people’s development and wellbeing, as well as being accountable for the team’s performance. It wasn’t always plain sailing – I made some mistakes along the way - but that experience taught me patience, to stand by my decisions, and to believe in my abilities.
What values/skills have been the most important to you, both personally and professionally?
To respect people, their opinions and beliefs (even if you don’t personally agree…!), and to listen! I recently qualified in Level 2 counselling skills, an experience which taught me a lot about myself. Self-awareness is key to forging strong, long-lasting relationships.
If you had to choose one problem to fix – something that people in your industry/niche commonly face – what would it be?
Inflation!
What excites you most about your job?
That no day is the same. You have no idea what to expect!
Thanks, Sarah. Now onto the fun stuff! You’re a big movie fan – can you give us a top three? What about podcasts?
You’re right: I am a film buff, which makes it very hard to choose a top three - but my go-to would be an 80s movie. They don’t make ‘em like they used to! In terms of podcasts, I’m currently listening to ‘Absolutely Mental’ with Ricky Gervais, as well as Teal Swan’s podcast.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I love to eat out and then burn it off at the gym! I also love listening to music (especially house music). If I’m not eating or working out, I’m chilling with friends or at home with my partner.
